The Department for Philosophy and Religious Studies at Utrecht University is looking for a lecturer in the field of theoretical philosophy. The position is part of the group for “Theoretical Philosophy” within the department. Together with the group for “History of philosophy” and the “Ethics Institute”, this group is responsible for the department’s research and teaching in philosophy.
The group for “Theoretical Philosophy” has research foci in foundations of mathematics, mathematical logic, logic for AI, philosophy of AI, metaphilosophy, philosophy of science, metaphysics, philosophy of mind, and in philosophy of language. The group stands in close interaction with the History and philosophy of science-group at Utrecht.
The lecturer will teach on both BA- and MA-level, contribute to interdisciplinary teaching activities, supervise theses, and is available for administrative tasks concerning teaching, such as the development of teaching curricula or participation in the relevant committees. The candidate is in particular expected to contribute to the group’s teaching in philosophy of language, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of science. The candidate is also expected to be available for other administrative tasks in the department and/or faculty.
-has finished her/his PhD;
-is an inspiring and experienced teacher who can develop and teach courses on both BA- and MA-level in Dutch, as documented by a strong track record in teaching (and preferably a certificate in academic teaching);
-has the ability to play an appropriate role in departmental management and to contribute fully to the academic life of the department.
We offer a position, starting August 1st 2016. The appointment will be on a temporary basis for a period of one year. Upon good performance, the contract will be extended for an additional year. Salary depends on qualifications and experience and will range from € 2,532 to € 3,997 gross per month for a full time position, consistent with the CAO (Collective Employment Agreement) scale 10 for Dutch Universities.
Under the current CAO Utrecht University offers a pension scheme, a holiday allowance of 8% per year, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% and flexible employment conditions. Conditions are set by the Collective Employment Agreement of the Dutch Universities. More information: terms of employment.
