Theories of Reference

(Theoretical Philosophy I)

The course introduces the main ideas and notions of contemporary theories of reference. Students will acquire an overview of contemporary theories of reference, with a special emphasis on the recent methodological discussion in the philosophy of language. Students will also be introduced to the central notions of ontology and the philosophy of mind and their relation to theories of reference.

Introduction

The lecture "Information Flow" (Düsseldorf 2001/2002) and "Situation Semantics and the Flow of Information" (ESSLLI in Trento, Italy 2002) were both taught in cooperation with Manuel Bremer. They were the basis for our book Information and Information Flow: An Introduction.
